SCOTT L. SCHUBACH, MD
Scott L. Schubach, MD, Chairman of the Department of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery at Winthrop-University Hospital, is an experienced cardiovascular surgeon specializing in coronary revascularization, beating heart surgery, valve repair and replacement, and thoracic surgery for benign and malignant lesions of the chest. At Winthrop since 1991, he has played an integral role in developing the Hospital's cardiac surgery program.
Dr. Schubach is Board Certified in General Surgery and in Thoracic Surgery--with added qualifications in Surgical Critical Care.
His postgraduate clinical training included an internship and residency in surgery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, as well as a residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor society, and prior to that, he earned a B.S., cum laude, from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.
Dr. Schubach is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at the Stony Brook School of Medicine, State University of New York at Stony Brook.
He has presented many papers at professional conferences and published articles in medical journals and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American College of Chest Physicians and American College of Surgeons. He also is a member of several scientific societies, including the American College of Chest Physicians and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
